BEIJING, July 30 -- "Holding onto its Cold-War mentality, the US side keeps flexing its muscles in the Asia Pacific, forms exclusive blocs under the guise of military exercises, and willfully coerces and puts pressure on others. Its behaviors damage peace and stability in the Asia Pacific," said Senior Colonel Zhang Xiaogang, spokesperson for China's Ministry of National Defense, at a regular press conference on Wednesday.
It is reported that the US Air Force recently launched Exercise Resolute Force Pacific and other exercise in the western Pacific. The Exercise Resolute Force Pacific is said to be the largest ever conducted by the US Air Force.
"Come what may, we will remain composed," said the spokesperson in response. He further added thatthe Chinese military has full confidence and capability to overcome any risks and challenges, safeguard China's national sovereignty, security and development interests, and remain a staunch force for global and regional peace. He also pointed out that the Pacific should be an ocean of peace, not a place to stir storms.
