RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, Jan. 13 -- The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy's hospital ship Silk Road Ark (Hull 867), which is on the Mission Harmony 2025, recently held open ship day activities at the Port of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. The vessel's advanced medical equipment and distinctive traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) treatments were warmly received by the local residents.
On the open ship day, the local residents, overseas Chinese, and representatives from Chinese-funded enterprises boarded the Silk Road Ark to tour its medical facilities and learn about the operational procedures of the onboard hospital, including casualty reception, triage, and treatment.
TCM specialists demonstrated traditional therapeutic techniques such as acupuncture, tuina massage, cupping, and gua sha (scraping therapy) to the visitors, helping them better understand the traditional Chinese medicine.
The Brazilian Navy dispatched an expert team to visit the Chinese hospital ship. In the coming days, the Silk Road Ark will also dispatch its expert team to Brazilian naval medical institutions to conduct medical exchange activities.
Since arriving in Brazil on January 8, 2026, the Silk Road Ark has received over 1,000 visitors from various sectors of Brazilian society, serving as an important window for Brazilians to learn about China's development achievements and experience the charm of Chinese culture.
