Exchanges and cooperation in the field of education are an important part of Sino-U.S. relations and help consolidate the foundation for bilateral friendship, Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Wednesday in Beijing while meeting with Larry Bacow, the president of Harvard University.
Xi said China will expand education to the outside world and is willing to conduct more extensive exchanges and cooperation with American research institutes.
He also noted that U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his support for Sino-U.S. educational exchanges and cooperation during their meeting in Argentina last year.
For his part, Bacow said deepening exchanges and cooperation between American and Chinese universities as well as educational and cultural institutes is crucial to U.S.-China ties.
It is admirable that the Chinese government attaches great importance to and vigorously strengthens higher education, Bacow stressed, adding that Harvard is willing to continuously promote exchanges and cooperation with Chinese educational and scientific research centers.
