BEIJING, May 26 -- On the night of May 23, a mountain torrent struck Sanshe Village, Sishui Township, Longsheng County, Guilin City, in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The Guilin Detachment under the Chinese People's Armed Police (PAP) Force Guangxi Corps immediately activated emergency response plan and prepared for rescue operations. At 9:30 a.m. on May 24, the Guilin Detachment dispatched 13 troops along with over 50 pieces of rescue equipment to the disaster-stricken area to carry out rescue efforts.
Due to the blocked roads, vehicles and large rescue equipment were temporarily unable to reach the disaster-stricken area. Braving the risk of secondary disasters, the 13-member task force proceeded on foot and carried out search and rescue efforts along the riverbank.
As of 5:00 p.m. on May 24, troops of the Guilin Detachment had searched approximately two kilometers of riverbank. At present, the rescue operation is still proceeding in an intense and orderly manner.
