BEIJING, July 29 -- Since July 26, continuous heavy rain has been hitting Beijing, causing rampant floods that drowned houses and disrupted main roads. Upon receiving orders, the troops attached to the Chinese People's Armed Police (PAP) Force Beijing Corps rushed to the affected areas for disaster relief.
At around 16:00 on July 27, the frontline rescue troops received an urgent message, indicating that a great number of people were trapped at Xiwanzi Village of Liulimiao Township, Huairou District, Beijing. At around 19:00, the spearhead rescue team arrived at the village and started rescue operations. About 40 minutes later, the reinforcement rescue team arrived with food, medicine, and other disaster relief supplies. By 21:00, more than 100 trapped people had been evacuated safely.
